Show ReviewChina-ASEAN bilateral trade in full swing at China Sourcing FairThe halls of Suntec Singapore Int'l Convention & Exhibition Centre were filled with thousands of excited buyers looking for new products at the inaugural China Sourcing Fair: Garments & Textiles in Singapore on November 22 to 24, 2010. The three-day event further kicked into high gear as Fair visitors took advantage of zero-tariff imports from China following the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, which took effect in January 2010. The bilateral agreement has approved the tax cut on more than 7,000 product categories from China. According to China Customs, China-ASEAN trade from January to October 2009 increased 42% to US$235 billion in the same period in 2010.
Among the Fair's visitors is the world's largest sewing machine company SVP Worldwide. " We found a wide variety of items at this Fair. We have been sourcing from China for a while now. China has stricter quality controls and import duties are lower now. We will visit the Fair again next year," SVP Worldwide director Daniel Wan said. Global Sources Exhibitions President Tommy Wong believes that since the city-state is a major ASEAN trading center, the country is an ideal China Sourcing Fair venue. "By bringing our shows to Singapore, Global Sources offers ASEAN as well as international buyers operating in the region a convenient platform for meeting and doing business with Greater China suppliers," he noted. "China has emerged as ASEAN's largest trading partner. Launching the China Sourcing Fair in strategically positioned Singapore, the world's second-largest entrepot after Hong Kong, will help suppliers from Greater China explore ASEAN markets more efficiently," Tommy added. Edward Chew, exhibitions and conferences director of the Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau, expressed support for the event. " We are delighted to welcome the China Sourcing Fairs into our calendar of business events, and believe they add to the vibrancy of our business events landscape, reinforcing Singapore's position as a leading destination for tradeshows in the region. Singapore has built a robust calendar of business events over the years, supported by world-class facilities and excellent services. We welcome all international delegates and exhibitors and hope they will enjoy all the sights, sounds and tastes Singapore has to offer," he said. Exhibits included ready-to-wear garments, outerwear, sweaters & knitwear, sportswear & activewear, bridal wear, fabrics & textiles, fibers & yarns, trimming materials & accessories, underwear, swimwear, beachwear & accessories and sleepwear & loungewear.
