Aesthetic upgrades on promotional lanyards drive R&D

Suppliers are increasing output of decorative pieces with nontraditional attachments.

TOP TRENDS

• Fancy designs: Makers are rolling out more decorative promotional lanyards for greater distinction. Two-tone tape is increasingly utilized. Some releases have reflective surfaces. Embellishments such as rhinestones are also incorporated. Nontraditional buckles, including swivel snap hooks with a metal ring and vinyl snaps with a bulldog clip, are likewise adopted.
  
• Increased functionality & user convenience: Aside from badges and business cards, a few versions can carry water bottles and mobile phones. Several have buckles that swivel 360 degrees. Others come in an easy-snap structure. Half-and-half lanyards, with each section in a different color, incorporate closures behind the neck. Styles featuring two ends and fasteners are offered.
  
• New materials: Although polyester and nylon still dominate output, zippers, bamboo rayon, denim and neoprene are becoming popular. For buckles, copper is replacing steel as the leading choice.
  
• Price projection: Quotes will climb 5 to 10 percent as inflation and labor costs continue to soar. Shipment, printing and textile outlay has also been on the rise.
