China (mainland) Leading A/V equipment manufacturers here plans to hold a demo of DIVA, a new digital A/V interface that could rival the High-Definition multimedia Interface (HDMI). The standard is being developed by the DIVA Consortium, which will schedule a demonstration of the new interface at the China Digital Home Industry Association Summit Conference in Guangzhou on May 21.
According to DIVA’s backers, the new interface’s main advantage over HDMI is its ability to handle bi-directional data transmission. Similar with HDMI, its system uses uncompressed audio and video data but allows interoperability of connected equipment through the interface. Reportedly, Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) and other home networks can be formed among devices connected using DIVA interfaces. The DIVA system is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The consortium is made up of Hisense Electric Co. Ltd, Konka Group, Nanjing Panda Electronics Co. Ltd, Qingdao Haier Co Ltd, Sichuan Chang Hong Electric Co Ltd, Skyworth Group, SVA Information Industry Co Ltd, Synerchip Co. Ltd (Taiwan) and TCL Corp. (China). Meanwhile, the China Video Industry Association (CVIA) has also announced its support for the specification.
