Responding to demand in key markets, mainland China and Taiwan suppliers are improving the functionality and safety of baby carriers.

As part of this effort, the latest designs emphasize user comfort and convenience. These include baby carriers with padded and adjustable straps, and cushioned hip belts that provide a relaxed fit. Releases are also being equipped with D-rings and side-release buckles to enable different carrying styles. In addition, makers are creating models that come with extra pockets and compartments, headrests, detachable canopies and washable lining.

To ensure quality and safety, manufacturers adhere to several international and regional standards. Most EU-bound baby carriers, for example, comply with EN requirements. Products exported to the US usually conform to ASTM regulations. Many suppliers are also complying with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, a system that aims to make textile products environment- and health-friendly.

At most companies, incoming raw materials are checked for appearance, color and strength, while outsourced components are randomly selected and sent to third-party laboratories for safety assessments. Suppliers also subject designs to various inspections during production. These include tests on the fabric’s chemical content, durability, flammability and colorfastness.
