United Kingdom Construction workers on sites for the 2012 London Olympics will need to pass through two stages of biometric screening—featuring palm and facial recognition—before they can start work. The decision to use technology that recognizes palms rather than fingerprints was considered, as workmen tend to have "worn-away" fingerprints due to their work.
As construction peaks by 2010, the proposed biometric system will be able to process up to 10,000 builders as they pass through barriers like those on the London Underground. As many as 100,000 builders are expected to be processed for the entire duration of the large-scale construction project.
