Mobile computing and browsing accessories lead the showcase of computer products at the spring edition of the China Sourcing Fair: Electronics & Components. The trade exhibition, which ran from April 12 to 15, 2011 at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, assembled manufacturers and buyers of computer and telecom products, consumer electronics and electronic components. More than 3,000 booths displayed the latest and trendiest from the Greater China region. The number of booths jumped 23 percent from last year’s spring event. The majority of exhibitors constituted mainland China suppliers, which represented over 2,700 booths. Key and emerging companies from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, India, Italy, Japan, Germany, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea also showcased their most innovative products. Besides mobile device accessories, computer input devices were popular during the four-day event. Wired and wireless models were among them. These included LED-illuminated keyboards and optical mice that work on any surface. Bags, cases and sleeves also drew crowds. Product displays featured an array of accessories for the iPad such as multifunction cases and stands in wooden, leather and metal options. The preregistered buyers that attended the show included leading companies such as Best Buy, Black & Decker, Bosch Security, Chubb, Dell, Flextronics, General Electric and Honeywell. Hyundai, Kaufland, Lexmark, LG Electronics, Logitech, Microsoft, Mitsubishi Electric, Monster, Motorola, Panasonic, Samsung and TCL were also on the list. To broaden buyers’ sourcing options, the show was held concurrently with the Korea Sourcing Fair: Electronics & Components, China Sourcing Fair: Security Products and the new China Sourcing Fair: Solar & Energy Saving Products. These colocated events enabled visitors all over the world to see and sample complementary products, thereby maximizing their travel and trade fair experience. Free onsite show features made the visit to Hong Kong even more productive. Buyers were able to take advantage of Ask the Experts, a unique service of one-on-one consultations given by on-the-ground sourcing professionals and third-party trade service representatives.

Conference series covered sourcing issues
Global Sources lined up conferences at the China Sourcing Fair: Electronics & Components to complement buyers’ sourcing activities. PassageMaker Sourcing Solutions’ China operations director Mike Bellamy shared practical tips on supplier negotiations and purchase orders. He talked about the merits of acquiring products directly from a factory than enlisting the services of a middleman. He also gave tips on choosing sourcing agents and trading companies. He further tackled steps vital in obtaining requests for quotes, including inputs on potential suppliers and shortlisting candidates based on nonprice attributes. Bellamy discussed general negotiation tips for actual meetings at the factory. These included intellectual property protection, quality control stipulations, price agreements and payment terms. Meanwhile, David A. Dayton, CEO at Silk Road International, a US-owned and -managed international procurement agency based in China, gave pointers on sourcing preparation and management. He talked about ways of streamlining trading experiences with companies in the country, giving advice to international buyers on what to look for in manufacturing partners and how to deal with challenging negotiations. Dayton provided a purchasing guide with tips on project management and problem solving, drawing from SRI’s 15 years of experience in the industry and his own expertise in the field.
