Enhanced compatibility R&D focus in mobile phone-PC data cables

Broader target applications: China makers are rolling out mobile phone-PC data cables with Mini-USB, Micro-USB and iPhone connectors to support various mobile phones. Universal types integrate up to 10 mobile phone connectors. Models that work with tablet PCs, video game consoles, MP3 players and GPS devices are on the rise as well. Most conform to CE, UL, REACH and RoHS. Several have an MFi license to ensure compatibility with Apple products. Single-function variants, however, will continue to lead supply because of their lower costs.
Enhanced portability: More units have retractable cables and interchangeable connectors suitable for users on the go. Aside from saving space, such versions support flexible connection.
Novelty designs: To improve visual appeal, some manufacturers adopt luminous cables that show current flow during charging. This feature also serves to alert the user when the device is fully charged.
Sales forecast: Companies are optimistic export revenue will climb by 10 to 20 percent, thanks to strong smartphone sales worldwide. Makers still regard North America and the EU as key overseas destinations.
