The LED POV lamp integrates spinning sticklike profiles that light up and form the shape of its shade.
Switzerland-based NDF Zürich designed the first LED pendant light that can create its own 3D shade in 16 million colors.
The POV lamp has sticklike profiles attached that light up and spin to form the shade when operated by a remote controller. There are different profiles for various shade shapes to choose from. The 3D LED pendant light uses a brushless DC motor that works silently. In addition, the lamp is “smart”, supporting control and setting of operation time through an Android or iOS mobile phone.
As regards the light source, a high-power 19 or 39W LED that generates 2,500 or 4,000 lumens, respectively, can be adopted. RGB LED lampshade and LED spot lighting functions are available. The light is dimmable up to 100 percent, helping create different lighting moods for various applications. Running on 110/230V, the fixture only consumes 29 or 45W.
The POV lamp is still in its early stages, awaiting a patent. If the fixture becomes successful once released in the market, it could pave way for more versatile LED pendant lights that can change hues and shapes on their own.
