From inventive suits and colorful patchwork to shearling-trimmed jackets and nearly naked dresses, collections from the recently concluded Fashion Week made heads turn.

The runways of the Fashion Week in the cities of New York, London, Milan and Paris came to a successful close, revealing the fashion essentials for the coming fall and winter.

Several spring trends, including suede, velvet, leopard prints, polka dots, and retro styles from the 60s, 70s and 80s, are still expected to thrive, but the real scene-stealers came in the form inventive suits, colorful patchwork, shearling and nearly naked dresses.

Below are some apparel trends that are predicted to dominate autumn and winter 2017-18.

Creative power suits

Designers added an inventive twist to blazers and trousers, parading pieces with artistic prints, stylish cut-outs and skirtlike construction. Pictured left is Mary Katranztou's suede blazer with vivid multicolor artwork.

Patchwork

The prevalence of streetwear and all things DIY manifested itself in the runways in puzzled-together pieces. Loewe's multicolor long-sleeved shift dress is an example.

Corduroy's comeback

Corduroy made its return in the catwalks in traditional outfits such as coats and pants. Claudia Li's royal blue blazer is among the pieces that represented the trend.

Shearling

The cold months call for something cozy and warmth-retentive fur is the answer. The runways were filled with 70s-inspired coats with teddy bearlike shearling. The jacket pictured left is taken from Balmain's collection. is an example.

Plaid print

Designers lent a fresh look to the popular plaid. This bandeau dress from Missoni brought a colorful twist to the checkered prints.

Trimmed sheer dresses

Daring nearly naked dresses turned heads in the catwalks. Strategically placed accents covered parts of the body that are not intended for public viewing. This creation from Versace is among the Fashion Week's highlights.
