Paper-based stationery remains popular among all age groups, in spite of digitalization and a growing number of gadgets and apps that provide the same functions. The market is expected to maintain its momentum from the past year, and grow further, as reported by Technavio, reaching a CAGR of 4.76 percent through 2021.
Luxury stationery and gift shop Arabesque of Naples owner Sheryl Sashin identifies five major trends in stationery and invitation cards that will drive demand all throughout 2017.
Expect invitation cards to display a combination of engraved and letterpress markings. The mixture of raised and depressed designs on flat paper provides the right balance among various textures to create a yin and yang effect.
Cards are predicted to be offered in different sizes and shapes, and with varying thicknesses. Touches of bold colors on the edges also add elegance and festivity to the stationery.
Customization remains a key trend when it comes to invitations. Models stand out by adopting other materials such as cork or wood. Event information such as the venue map can be printed or hand-drawn directly on the paper.
Gilded adornments using rose gold, gold, bronze and silver foil lend a luxurious feel to any invitation or greeting cards. Releases with metallic accents are also popular.
Packaging will also be made more elegant by using silk boxes, custom pocket- and gatefold envelopes. Aside from their aesthetic value, such design is functional, keeping the contents secure and organized.
