With the selfie not showing any signs of vanishing soon, Oxford Dictionaries made "selfie" its 2013 Word of the Year, it was only a matter of time before somebody found a way to improve their self-portraits and fit more people in the frame.
Introducing the selfie stick, an extendible handheld monopod with a clip or adapter on one end to hold a smartphone or digital camera.

1. Control selfie-taking via remote
The MS-3L model from Zhongshan Nikow consists of the QP-903L monopod, SJ-70 mobile phone holder and BT-3 remote control. The last pairs with the iPhone 3, 4 and 5, and iPad and activates the camera button via Bluetooth. The four-section monopod extends to 95cm. It has a plastic ball that is angle-adjustable. The holder can also be used on the BlackBerry Curve and Nokia Lumia 710, 810, 820 and 822.
2. Bluetooth selfie
Rushed selfies are a thing of the past with Bluetooth-enabled Z07-5-1-1-1-1 model from Shenzhen Kjstar. The product pairs with iOS 4.0 and Android 3.0 and higher devices. It uses a 45mAh battery that can be charged within 1 hour. Standby time is 100 hours. Operating temperature is -10 to 40 C at 10 to 90 percent relative humidity.
The monopod has a 500g maximum loading capacity. It extends from 270 to 1,120mm. The stainless steel product has seven sections. It is priced $15 or $16 for an MOQ of 1,000 units.
3. Twist and lock
The M-Cameras-1079A model from Mobile Mates is a twist-and-lock handheld monopod for digital cameras. The product has a ball head adjustable to any angle and a soft foam handle that prevents slips. The seven-segment model is extendable from 20 to 97cm. It is priced between $5.30 and $5.80.
4. Easier selfies on the iPhone
Ningbo Evertop’s TS-QP01 model comes with an adapter specifically for the iPhone. The product measures 21cm when folded, fitting easily in a bag or a purse, making it suitable for travelers or on-the-go photographers. It extends to 52cm. Ningbo Evertop requires an MOQ of 500 sets.
5. 95cm reach
Extending to 95cm, taking “groupfies” is now easier with the model CP-Z07-1 handheld monopod for digital camera from Shenzhen Capital. Collapsed, the product is only 20cm long.
The seven-segment monopod is priced $2.50 to $4. It is made of steel and has a load capacity of 800g. MOQ is 100 pieces.
6. iPhone-, GoPro-compatible
Shenzhen Fottos’s model 188 monopod can be used with the iPhone and GoPro cameras. Folded, the aluminum alloy measures 42.5cm. It extends to 123cm. The product uses 20mm-diameter tubes to carry up to 2.5kg. Shenzhen Fottos requires an MOQ of 500 pieces.
7. Superlong monopod for GoPro Hero
Designed for the GoPro Hero 1, 2 and 3 camera lines, the ATT-GH43 model from ATT reaches 1,080mm when fully extended. It can also be used with other digital camera brands that use a standard tripod mount. The monopod measures 9.84x1.77x1.18in and is 4.97oz. A set, priced between $4 and $6, includes a monopod, mount adapter and strap. MOQ is 10 sets.
8. 7 segments
Shenzhen Powerfirst’s Mopod-1 model is a seven-segment handheld monopod for digital cameras and mobile phones. The product uses an aluminum rod. It extends from 22 to 97cm in length. The model’s holder rotates 180 degrees. Load capacity is 500g.
9. Good for GoPro
The model NW-iPA185 handheld monopod from Newell is specifically designed for GoPro’s Hero series of cameras. The product has a nonslip soft foam handle and is made of aluminum alloy and plastic. It collapses down to 23 and extends up to 109cm. The product has an adjustable ball head and thumb screw locks for multiangle shooting. It is lightweight at just 0.79oz. Newel requires an MOQ of 1,000 pieces.
10. Travel monopod
The Monopod+Mount Adapter 91 model from Xuzhou Bingo adopts magnesium allow and is lightweight enough for travelers. It is 200mm when folded and reaches 500mm when extended. The product comes with an adapter for the GoPro Hero series of cameras.
