Expert analysts predict as many as 30 million Apple Watches to be sold in 2015, which could be a massive increase over all wearables sold this year.

How many Apple Watches will be sold in 2015? Apple has rarely disappointed with a new product launch, but uncertainties surrounding the viability of a relatively expensive smart watch (the base model will be US$349) are extreme. Expert analysts tasked with finding out how many Watches are going to be sold have predictions all over the map, with some estimating at least 30 million (Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse) and others going all the way down to 10 million (Piper Jaffray). Note that while that spread is impressive, ABI estimates that there will only be 6 million wearable electronic devices sold in all of 2014. If the Watch sells as many as the lowest estimate, it would be a 67 percent increase over all wearables sold this year.

While no one knows how many Apple Watches will actually be sold, it appears as though Apple is putting together enough components for at least 30 million. According to a Digitimes report, the company is preparing for a production run of 30-40 million devices in 2015. This estimate would mean that Apple is preparing for sales of the devices on the upper bound of most analysts’ estimates.

While it remains to be seen if the device will be a success, the high-profile launch and the dedicated band of brand loyalists and evangelists make it a certainty that smart watches will raise their profile in 2015. The hype surrounding the launch could be good news for budget smart watch and fitness band makers and sellers, as many consumers who shy away from the price, or the Apple ecosystem, may want to step in to the smart watch market with an Android-based watch instead.
