iPhones 6 and 6 Plus sold more than 10 million units breaking Apple's previous record for the iPhone 5S and 5C models.

Apple broke its previous opening weekend sales record this week with more than 10 million iPhones 6 and 6 Plus sold. The previous record was 9 million iPhone 5S and 5C models sold last year.

Apple claimed that its sales were actually less than expected if it had higher inventory on hand. Manufacturing issues that had been rumored in previous months related to the production of the iPhone 6 Plus prove to be accurate. New iPhone 6 Plus orders are not expected to be fulfilled until late November or later in the US.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has ordered between 70 and 80 million units to be delivered by its suppliers by the end of the year. Last year Apple asked its suppliers to provide 50-60 million units of the iPhone 5S and 5C.
