Coaxial cables and assemblies emphasis is on nationally and internationally accepted 75ohm types, which ensure efficient signal transmission in home and building installations.

To meet the low attenuation and capacitance requirement in security products used in homes and buildings, mainland China suppliers of coaxial cables and assemblies focus on the production of 75ohm models. They target key applications, including monitoring, alarm and building intercom systems.

All companies follow the specifications set in national standards such as GB 50312-2016, GB 50348, GA/T 670, GA/T 1297-2016 and GA/T 1406-2017, and a number secure not only CCC certification but also CE approval and UL listing. Some include REACH and RoHS compliance to guarantee entry into major export markets.

The line has been on a steady growth path in sales. By 2021, the global market will have a total scale of $12.8 billion, according to statistics from Technavio. The main demand drivers are the CATV, communications, security, aviation and military fields.

The mainland, one of the major production bases for the category, looks forward to the same upbeat revenue outlook. Shipments are projected to increase by 5 to 10 percent in 2019 and 2020 as more manufacturers are expected to explore other opportunities in Russia, the Middle East and South America. This is while continuing to nurture businesses in key export destinations the US, Europe and Asia.

For this reason, the majority of local makers of coaxial cables and assemblies plan to raise output by 5 to 10 percent in the months ahead and through 2020. They are confident the copper-based line will co-exist with its more advanced fiber-optic counterpart in the next one or two years. This is because despite the interest generated by the latter in high-definition monitoring systems, cost remains an issue, especially in household and building monitoring applications.

There are more than 500 manufacturers of coaxial cables and assemblies in China and over 80 percent can offer types for security products. The application accounts for about 30 percent of total local output for the line.

Some suppliers outsource connectors, while others have the in-house capability to make them. Interviewees such as the mainland’s Zhejiang Tianjie Industrial Corp. and Taiwan's Super Pilot Enterprise Co. Ltd are among the latter. There are also those that choose to offer cables only. They include Shenzhen Glory Technology Co. Ltd and Haiyan Hanker Electronic Co. Ltd.

The key manufacturing centers are in the provinces of Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. In the second, there are about 100 makers in the cities of Nantong and Zhenjiang.

No influx to the line is expected in the years ahead due to tight competition.

75ohm-impedance interconnects

The mainstream coaxial cables and assemblies from mainland companies include the SYV-75 or RG-59, RVV or H05VV-F and RVVP or shielded H05VV-F series with one, two, four, six or 10 cores and BNC, TNC or I-Pex-compatible plugs. RVV kinds have 300 or 500V rated voltage and two to 24 cores.

All types have 75ohm impedance, although 50ohm versions are also supplied when required.

The copper cables use PE for the insulation and PVC for the inner and outer jackets. The brass plugs have a gold- or silver-plated contact pin, nickel-plated shell, PTFE or ABS insulator and O-ring seal.

Companies accommodate requests for customization.

Metal and plastic materials are sourced from local providers unless buyers specify imported variants.

The cost of manufacturing inputs rose in the past year, forcing some makers to increase product prices by 5 to 10 percent. In the months ahead, outlay for materials is expected to remain on the upswing, but competition will likely keep most companies from adjusting their quotes.

The products in this gallery have been handpicked by our mainland China-based market analyst for representing current trends in coaxial cables and assemblies for security products from mainland China and Taiwan makers.
