Trends this year, led in no small part by online influencers, are set to inspire bathroom renovation designs and influence consumers on which fixtures set the best mood for unwinding and relaxation.

Better Homes & Gardens and PureWow say that large tiles will be big this year, literally and as a trend. Large tiles offer the benefit of being aesthetically pleasing as well as also being easier to wipe down. Emser Tile design and trends director Suzanne Zurfluh says, "The movement toward larger format tiles will gain momentum in the coming year as this style can make a big impact on a space while displaying fewer grout lines."

For homeowners looking to create an instant appeal in their bathrooms, online bathroom specialist Victoria Plum suggests including stand-out elements, which can be a colorful freestanding bathtub. Other fixtures such as toilets and sinks can make a good bathroom great with a balance of striking but complementary designs. Better Homes & Gardens recommends backlit mirrors for an aesthetically pleasing yet practical addition to any master bathroom. "A backlit mirror creates a glowing effect on the wall giving the illusion of a floating mirror," says Linda Yang, senior staff designer at Robern, a design-led maker of luxury cabinets, mirrors and lighting.
