The Ultraloq smart door lock offers touch and contactless unlocking methods.

Many of the latest smart door locks unlock in multiple ways, granting access through apps, smartphones, fingerprint and face recognition, passwords and keys. Makers are adding more combinations of technologies and the strategy entices more people to adopt smart door locks. Among such recent models creating hype is US-based U-Tec Inc.’s Ultraloq UL1 that has gained 1500 percent funding in Indiegogo with more than 20 days to go before its campaign ends.

Ultraloq opens by fingerprints, Bluetooth smartphones and keyfobs. It unlocks in less than a second after detecting the user’s fingerprint. When using a smartphone, the user should shake the Bluetooth-connected gadget for it to be sensed within 5m. If through a 13.56MHz keyfob, no contact is needed. The owner just needs to hold it near the lock. In case of loss, the keyfob authorization can be revoked easily through Ultraloq’s compatible iOS and Android app.

Ultraloq is also capable of notifying for lock status via smartphone alerts. The smart door lock can also be upgraded to allow assignment of eKeys to authorized guests.

As regards installation, setting the lock on standard doors can be done in minutes with just five screws. The product’s backers are getting a discounted price of $99 or more than 50 percent less of its $219 retail price. Shipping starts in October.
