Bosch's cordless power tools feature wireless charging

Smartphones and wearables are not the only devices to jump into the wireless charging trend recently. Introduced in late 2014 for the US and Europe markets and now made available in other countries, Bosch's cordless Li-ion power tools that adopt its Power Ready Wireless Charging technology are expected to revolutionize the power tool industry.

With the said world's first wireless power tool charging technology, cordless Li-ion power tools are recharged when placed on a plug-in inductive charging station. The charging pad detects the compatible battery's presence and emits an alternating magnetic field that penetrates the internal copper coil, inducing voltage and current into the cells up to full capacity. This means that batteries need not be removed from the unit, allowing DIYers to charge in between tasks and eliminate downtime.

Another interesting feature that makes the charging pad ‘smart' is the integration of Foreign Object Detection (FOD). The station halts charging when it senses other conductive materials that may heat up during the cycle.

Currently, Bosch is adding more power tool models ranging from drills to grinders that can be compatible with Power Ready. With this and the wireless power industry expected to surge in 2015, such ease-of-use could soon be a major standard for upcoming power tool releases from suppliers across the globe.
