The concave dome roof suits homes in arid places.

Iran-based design firm BMDesign Studios came up with an unusual-shape roof that can reuse rainwater.

The roof, resembling a deep bowl, catches and stores water droplets quickly before they evaporate due to hot climate, and can still provide shade. Collected water will then be kept in holders built into the walls of arid climate-type houses. These can cool the inside of the home but currently, the designers are working on a site that has towerlike structures that can help disperse the cooling effect more effectively through wind.

This bowllike system may look peculiar but it tells that roof designers and makers want to keep up with “green” living trends by rolling out more functional designs. The eco-friendly and energy-efficient building industry seems to be more promising with innovations in walls and floors, and now even in roofing.
