Coach topped survey of favored luxury brands for genuine leather handbags but consumers are not impressed by the bags' high prices.

Women prefer Coach's leather handbags over those from other luxury brands but find them too expensive. This was revealed in a recent survey conducted by J.P. Morgan of 500 women aged 22 to 55 who have purchased a handbag in the past year.
In the survey, Coach was chosen as the "brand of choice" although most costumers see no major improvements in the style and quality of the products. More than 70 percent of the respondents said that the brand's look and features remained the same.
Among those surveyed who bought Coach's bags between the $300 and $500 price range, 72 percent thought that the bags overpriced. J.P. Morgan analysts believe that consumers' shift to factory stores during the recent downturn influenced how they perceive the brand and the company may now struggle to persuade them to pay the full price.
Coach, however, is not the only brand to receive negative feedback. Leather bags from Michael Kors, which placed behind Coach's 21 percent in the brand of choice ranking at 12 percent, were seen as overpriced by 77 percent of the respondents.
Only a tenth of those surveyed said they preferred Kate Spade handbags, 6 percent opted for Louis Vuitton while 3 percent chose Tony Burch. Nearly half or 47 percent of the respondents listed "other" as their favorite brand.
