Car care includes not only ensuring the engine in optimum condition but also keeping exterior and interior parts clean. Exposure to the elements, dirt and bird droppings can damage the paint job and make metal components degrade faster – something that can affect vehicle resale value or result in a costly repair. The interior, meanwhile, can collect dust, dirt, grime, crumbs, drips and spills, pet dander, dust mites, pollen, other allergens, germs and viruses, especially in crevices, upholstery, floor mats and carpeting. When left to build up, this can cause bad odor and potentially spread disease.

Demand for car care products has increased, driven by this consumer health and safety awareness. Due to COVID-19, in particular, the need for germ-free interiors has created an opportunity for anti-microbial products and disinfectants.

Lockdowns boosted the DIY or retail market when do-it-for-me (DIFM) establishments, including auto beauty shops, service centers and garages, became inaccessible. But as more countries ease restrictions, the DIFM and DIY sectors are expected to fuel further growth in this category.

Globally, the market for car care products is forecast to reach $5.5 billion in 2027 from $4.2 billion in 2021 or at 4.7 percent CAGR, according to MarketsandMarkets. The interior subcategory will take the lead in terms of application and is projected to be the fast-growing segment based on the report.
