In mainstream supply are pure-copper, brass and phosphor-copper types, with the first having more than 99.8 percent copper content and dominating China’s output, according to suppliers interviewed by Global Sources.

Chinese manufacturers use T1, T2, T3, C1100, C1020, C1201, C1220, C1271, C2200, C5101, C5101, TU1, TP1, TP2, TAg0.08, TAg0.1, H62, H63, H65 and H68 materials. Their copper wires range in diameter from 0.01 to 15mm and have typical hardness properties of O, 1/2H, 3/4H, H, EH and SH.

To cater to differing requirements, companies welcome custom specifications on materials and sizes while continuing to emphasize high-tensile but low-priced products. They source other key inputs such as tin and zinc from domestic providers.

The cost of copper rose in 2020 and 2021 but went down slightly in 2022. It is possible this will stabilize in the coming months and keep copper wire prices from going up.
