In light of increasing ecological consciousness among consumers and major players, a growing number of companies in the cosmetics industry are taking the sustainable route, especially when it comes to packaging.

This comes as international market intelligence firm Euromonitor identifies environment-friendly consumer concerns as among the top four global packaging trends in the beauty products industry. With this, recyclable cosmetic packaging has become a key area of innovation.

Earlier this year, US-based personal care products giant Procter & Gamble released the world's first recyclable shampoo bottle made of reused beach plastic.

About the same time, hygiene and personal care brand Unilever from the Netherlands and the UK announced its commitment to use 100 percent recyclable plastic packaging by 2025.

Recently, Rafesa, a Spain-based packaging specialist launched a sustainable line of cosmetic bottles adopting recyclable PET. The selection includes jars with a capacity ranging from 15 to 50mL. There is also a 30mL bottle that comes with a dropper and pump dispenser. The products are 100 percent reusable and heat-resistant, and weigh lighter than glass.
