Dell recently announced that some of its laptop models will be integrating the upgraded eighth-generation Kaby Lake chip from Intel.
The new Kaby Lake microprocessor is said to be up to 40 percent faster than the previous generation, thus boosting Dell laptop speed to 4GHz at maximum. It also allows for better multitasking and video playing.
The models getting the latest Intel chips are the XPS 13, and the Inspiron hybrid series, including the 13 and 15in 5000 2-in-1, 17in 7000 2-in-1, and also the 7000. The Core i7 version of the first boasts more than 20 hours battery life and will go for nearly $1,400 when rolled out on September 12.
For the Inspiron models, what’s new beside the upgraded microprocessors are the active styluses for Inspiron 5000 2-in-1 $750 13in and $800 15in versions, and a rose gold variant of the Inspiron 7000. Versions with the features will be on sale starting October 3.
Initial reports say that not much has changed beyond the processor. More people will be able to see for themselves though as Dell is reportedly bringing the upgraded models to a consumer electronics event in Berlin.
