DJI releases drone racing goggles

DJI launched recently a racing edition of its drone goggles. The new drone viewing accessory, DJI Goggles RE, is designed to make racing drones easier and fun to control, and interference-free.

DJI Goggles RE has the functions and dual HD screens of its nonracing predecessor, the original DJI Goggles. It supports head-tracking gimbal mode, which is said to enable drone gimbal camera control as the user moves his or her head. Control range is up to 7km. When connected to another person’s headset, both wearers can see what the racing drone sees and control it. An extra controller can be paired with the unit.

The drone goggles show an immersive 1280x960p panoramic view, record and play back videos in a range of formats, and prevent interference from competitor drones via 12 channels the user can select for transmission. With an OcuSync Video Transmission Module, transmission frequency is said to switch from 2.4 to 5.8GHz.

There are three antennas offered for the unit. The pagoda version suits 5.8GHz band, and can change from digital to analog transmission. The cylindrical antenna operates between 2.4 to 5.8GHz and is for long-range transmission while the dipole variant runs on the same frequency range but is lighter.

The new DJI racing goggles are compatible with the DJI Mavic Pro, Spark, Phantom 4, Inspire 2 and other drones. The product lists at $549.
