Drone taxi makes its way to CES 2018

Drones are starting to become popular in package delivery and now they are getting converted to aerial vehicles for people. One emerging and talked about passenger drone is US-based Workhorse’s Surefly drone taxi which is set to fly by CES 2018.

Surefly, nearly the size of a car, can transport up to two people or 400 pounds. The joystick-controlled passenger drone flies 70mph on a full tank. Its engine runs on gas and power source is a parallel battery pack.

Surefly isn’t the first drone taxi around. Last year, China UAV manufacturer Ehang was the earliest to introduce one, the 184 drone. What’s innovative with Ehang’s model is that it is mobile app controlled, therefore no need for the joystick. Passengers just need to select the drop-off point on their mobile phone and they’re good to go. There is a possibility that Surefly’s drone taxi will become autonomous in the future, according to the Digital Trends article.

Though still at the early stages, development in passenger drones seems to be heading toward a good path. A spot at the CES show floor would definitely introduce many to the wonders of such innovation.

The Surefly drone taxi will be available to the market in 2019. It reportedly lists at $200,000.
