Electronics distributors bullish on 2015

A recent survey and white paper from NetSuite and Modern Distribution Management (MDM) shines light on the challenges and opportunities faced by US distributors in 2015. The survey, which received responses from 200 distributors/wholesalers and manufacturers, indicated that 48 percent of respondents had at least $100 million in annual revenues; 27 percent of which were directly involved in electronics.

Overall, electronics distributors were bullish on 2015, with about 31 percent of respondents expecting growth to be more than 10 percent in 2015 and a further 56.4 percent expecting revenue growth to increase between 5 and 10 percent. None expected growth to decline during the course of the year. Safety product manufacturers were also generally optimistic, with greater than 33 percent expecting revenue growth of more than 10 percent and a total of just over 80 percent expecting growth of more than 5 percent.

Most of the companies surveyed (53.1 percent) said that their strategy for revenue growth in 2015 is to add new products or product categories, the single most common response for the question. This indicates that while distributors are trying to increase revenue growth from existing customers, they are now more likely than ever to try to attract new customers with new product offerings.
