Power strips are keeping up with the smart trend to enable not only remote control and scheduling of plugged-in devices but also power monitoring and management while ensuring safety.

In China, manufacturers are working on the release of more smart power strips to take advantage of growing demand in both domestic and overseas markets. An early example is the Huawei Hilink smart power trip, which can be controlled using an app via Bluetooth to switch on and off and monitor electricity consumption. It has an added feature that triggers a red light and sends an alarm via app when overload is detected.

Widely available power strips from Chinese suppliers, however, are conventional models but these have built-in safety features that protect from overload, short circuits and current leakage. As such, the comply with industry standards such as UL, cUL, CE, GS, CCC and RoHS.

The typical specifications are 100 to 240VAC rated voltage, 50/60Hz frequency, 10 to 16A rated current, 500 to 2,500 rated power and about 5,000-cycle life span. These products can be customized to have sockets based on electrical standards used in different countries.

Chinese companies usually source sockets, wires, fuses, LED lights and cases from domestic providers. The cost of these materials is expected to remain stable and keep prices of power strips unchanged throughout 2025.
