In the year 2000, as the comedian Conan O'Brien used to say, we had many a paranoid prediction. One called the Y2K bug said that the majority of computers would fail because the two-digit encoding for years would cause systems to interpret "00" as "1900" instead of "2000." Thankfully, programmers updated their code in time to avert this crisis, and today we can think of the Y2K bug as the cultural nostalgia gripping the fashion scene.

The renewed interest appears like clockwork - in the same way that since the 90s, arbiters of taste have been reviving looks from two decades before.
