FPC connectors are widely used in LCDs, computers, and mobile and automotive electronics for their advantages of high density and slim construction, enabling reliable connectivity in tight spaces. They come in single- and double-row designs.

In China, these connectors can be sourced in SMD, DIP, ZIF and non-ZIF types with a pin count ranging from four to 50 and pitches of 0.3, 0.5, 1, 1.25, 2 and 2.54mm. Manufacturers interviewed by Global Sources have noted that there has been higher demand for finer-pitch units, specifically 0.3, 0.5 and 1mm ones, in recent years.

Chinese suppliers have also been offering FPC connectors compatible with those made by foreign companies. Elete Technology Co. Ltd, for instance, has released its FCZDSMD1 series that is equivalent to the Molex 505110 series, with 0.5mm pitch, back-flip actuators, bottom contacts and a right-angle configuration. These ZIF-type units are available with 10 to 80 pins.

Generally, manufacturers accept customization requests and products based on them represent 20 to as much as 50 percent of output. They ensure that their products, in-house and customized models alike, pass relevant industry standards such as CE, TÜV, RoHS and UL.

Companies use phosphor bronze, copper alloy, gold, silver, LCP and UL94V-0-rated nylon 9T, sourced from domestic or foreign providers as required. Material costs have not changed much in the past 12 months and will stay the same in the next six months, keeping connector prices stable.
