First Bluetooth-enabled "social" fidget spinner

Italy-based BlueSpin envisions a community of fidget spinners all over the world.

The fidget spinner fad has gone digital. Italy-based start-up BlueSpin launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in July for what is being marketed as the world's first Bluetooth-enabled and "social" fidget spinner.

BlueSpin is looking to connect fidget spinners all over the world into a community, where players can share spins, time and score records on Facebook and Google+, challenge friends and strangers, and climb the international leaderboard rankings.

The BlueSpin Bluetooth Spinner has its own app that works on Android and iOS. The gadget can be scanned up to 60m in line of sight, and has touch-sensitive buttons on each side, magnetic position and rotation sensors, an accelerometer and a CPU. It sources power from a built-in 230mA, 3.7V Li-polymer battery.

Added features include an in-app chat option and a locate function in case the gadget is misplaced.

Shipping is expected to start this September.
