TFT-LCD modules in 4 to 5.5in now lead shipments as smartphones migrate to larger displays.

Mainland China companies continue to offer 3 to 6in TFT-LCD modules in resolutions of 480x854, 720x1280 and 1080x1920 pixels, brightness levels of 400 to 800cd/sqm and contrast ratios of 600:1, 800:1 and 1,000:1. All products use LED backlighting.

Owing to the popularity of larger screens, especially in smartphones, releases in 4 to 5.5in now dominate shipments.

Most manufacturers source key components such as TFT-LCD panels, touchscreens, LED backlights and PCBs from domestic and Taiwan providers.

The cost of the panels rose in 2016 due to the short supply of glass substrates, which come mainly from Corning, Asahi Glass and Nippon Electric Glass or NEG, resulting in an increase of module prices exceeding 20 percent.

This year, local suppliers expect the panel cost and supply situation to improve and stabilize module rates as mainland makers of glass substrates such as Irico and Dongxu boost production. The latter company, together with its subsidiary Fuzhou Tunghsu, entered into an agreement with NEG to establish a joint venture for this in 2016.

4.3in TFT-LCD module with capacitive touchscreen

The model J043WQCN0501 TFT-LCD module from Shenzhen Jinghua Displays Co. Ltd in 4.3in has 480x272-dot resolution and 600:1 contrast ratio. It features a capacitive touch panel. The active area is 95.04x53.856mm. The unit with RGB interface operates in -20 to 70 C.

The minimum order is 50 units for delivery within 5 days.

4.3in TFT-LCD module includes touch panel

Shenzhen Leadtek Technology Co. Ltd's LTK43C45A81Tmodel is a 4.3in TFT-LCD module that uses a-Si backplane and white LED backlighting. It comes with a touchscreen. The active area is 95.04x53.86mm.

The 480x272dpi unit has 198x198mm pixel pitch, transmissive and normally white display mode, and 400 lumens typical luminance. It adopts an OTA5180A driver IC.

An order of at least 300 units is required and has a 25-day delivery lead time.

6 in TFT-LCD module has 16.7 million colors

This 6in TFT-LCD module from Shenzhen Zhongshen Optoelectronics Co. Ltd, ZS101BH6003M6D7EE model, can achieve simultaneous display of 16.7 million colors and has 450cd/sqm typical luminance and 500:1 contrast ratio. Its typical response time is 25ms. The unit supports LVDS.

The required minimum order quantity is 500 units. Delivery lead time is 10 days.

Zopin Technology Co. Ltd offers ZP43118 model, a 4.3in TFT-LCD module for security devices and doorphones. The a-Si unit has 480x272-dot resolution and 6 o'clock viewing angle. Its active area measures 95.04x53.86mm. The product is RoHS-compliant.

The maker requires a minimum order of 500 units. Delivery is within 20 days.
