High-frequency models dominate output in China.

Choke coil manufacturers in China offer DIP and SMD units in low- and high-frequency configurations. Low-frequency variants use iron cores, and their counterparts, air or ferrite kinds.

High-frequency choke coils with ferrite cores form the bulk of supply, accounting for about 80 percent of local production.

Eighty percent of Shanghai Meisongbei Electronics Co. Ltd's releases are DIP units and 70 to 80 percent ferrite core-based high-frequency models. The latter has the same share at Haining Ferriwo Electronics Co. Ltd.

The DIP category represents 80 percent of Hefei Shirui Electronic Technology Co. Ltd's yield and high-frequency kinds, about 90 percent.

Choke coils consist of a bobbin, magnetic core and windings. The first material is usually made of phenolic, PBT, PET or nylon 66. Copper wire is mostly used for the last.

All inputs come from domestic providers.

The cost of materials will stay the same until year-end, but makers forecast a price reduction of about 5 percent due to intense competition.

Customizable choke coil

Taiwan's Core-Tech Corp. offers model CT1004 choke coil for noise suppression in DC-DC converters and DC-AC inverters, and for computers and peripherals, consumer electronics, communication devices and measuring instruments. The unit exhibits high reliability, heat resistance, terminal strength and solderability. It comes in various sizes. Custom orders are accepted.

Common-mode choke coil has 10 to 100mH inductance

The model FWFCC1614/2319 common-mode choke coil from mainland China's Haining Ferriwo Electronics Co. Ltd has current-compensated double chokes, closed magnetic circuit and 4-section winding. It is 14mm in height. The clearance and creepage are more than 3mm.

The unit boasts 10 to 100mH rated inductance. The rated voltage and current are 250VAC and 0.45 to 1.6A. The other attributes are high differential-mode suppression and pulse-handling capability, and low resistance. The component is compatible with wave soldering. The applications are lamp ballasts and high-power switching power supplies in consumer electronics.

The product is priced at $0.35. The minimum order is 1,000 units. Delivery takes 10 days.

Antenna choke coil with ferrite core

Mainland China supplier Hefei Shirui Electronic Technology Co. Ltd's model SR05CC0520 antenna choke coil for AM radios adopts a ferrite core. It has 34µH±15 percent inductance, and 2.5A and 120mohm maximum DC current and resistance.

The unit with high Q value uses silk copper wire in progressive winding. Customization is accepted.

The model is priced at $0.20 for a minimum order of 1,000 units. Delivery is within 20 days.

Multilayer chip common-mode choke coil

This common-mode choke coil, model MCM3216 Type from Taiwan maker Motocraft Enterprise Co. Ltd is used in computers and peripherals, LCDs, PDPs, digital cameras, PDAs and MP3 players. Its impedance is 90 to 550ohm. The unit comes in 3.2x1.6x1.1mm and 2x1.25x1.1mm versions.

Common-mode choke coil has UL94V-0 rating

Shanghai Meisongbei Electronics Co. Ltd's model TCC3027 common-mode choke coil has 0.3 to 10A rated current.

The UL94V-0-rated through-hole unit with high saturation resistance and thermal properties is used in EMI input filters and phase-angle control circuits.

The product is quoted at $0.50. The minimum order is 1,000 units and delivery is within 14 days.
