Mainland China makers of crystal oscillators target the production of SMD types as small as 1008.

Efforts in mainland China's line of crystal oscillators continue to focus on meeting the requirements in electronic products, specifically mobile electronics. SMD types dominate output, including those in sizes of 1210, 1612 and 2012, while suppliers eye the production of smaller 1008 types used in wearable devices. They indicate the latter as the future trend as the local sector follows the lead of major industry players. NDK, Kyocera and KDS have presented such units.

Besides those in SMD packages, the local selection has DIP kinds. Both categories include TCXO, VCXO, OCXO, SPXO and LPXO types, with the first three making up the majority of the country's total shipments. These suit consumer electronics, computers and peripherals, medical devices, and security, automotive and banking applications.

The SMD variants also come in 2016, 2520, 3225, 4025, 5032 and 6035, with those in 2016, 2520 and 3225 in mainstream supply. DIP counterparts are in HC-49U, HC-49U/S, HC-49USMD, HC-33U, UM-1, UM-5, DIP-14 and DIP-8. These discrete components, which meet RoHS standards, have 1.8 to 12V rated voltage and 0.5 to 800MHz operating frequency.

Most makers highlight design customization, orders based on which make up about 30 percent of their total deliveries.

Quartz blanks, ceramic bases, coated electrodes, metal lids, solder pads and adhesive are among the main components and materials used in the manufacture of crystal oscillators. Companies purchase them from local or foreign providers, depending on buyers' preferences. NTK, Sumitomo and Kyocera are among their sources.

Input costs did not fluctuate much in the past year, keeping prices of crystal oscillators steady. This trend is expected to persist throughout 2020.
