Suppliers in India use a wide range of natural materials to offer traditional
and modern designs.
India’s fashion accessories industry uses a range of natural materials, most of which are available within the country. Cotton, leather and silk are among the primary options for bags, headwear, neckwear and belts.
For cotton, the main sources are the states of Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Telangana.
Genuine leather, meanwhile, is usually from the states of Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Options include buffalo hide, goatskin, sheepskin and oxhide.
For silk, the selection comprises mulberry, tasar, eri and muga. These silk varieties are available in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and West Bengal.
Wool can be procured from Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka and Gujarat. Pashmina, a type of wool, is primarily from the Ladakh region.
To meet growing demand for environment-friendly products, many suppliers are offering designs made of jute or bamboo. Jute is sourced from West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura and Meghalaya. Bamboo, meanwhile, grows in several states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
