Suppliers of rigid LED strips offer IP22 to IP68-rated units.
Mainland China makers of rigid LED strips build on advantages of high brightness, low luminous decay and power dissipation, and long operating life as the category continues to replace fluorescent lights.
They turn out models with up to 100 lm/W luminous efficacy and are working to realize 150 lm/W. Emphasizing better performance in terms of water and dust resistance, companies offer IP67 and IP68-rated units for outdoor applications and IP22 models for indoors.
Rigid LED strips, however, remain priced higher than their fluorescent variants. Thanks to the localization of materials and components, suppliers gain access to manufacturing inputs at lower costs and this helps them reduce quotes to win more orders. They can now rely on homegrown providers of LED chips, which include San'an, HC SemiTek, Epilight and Silan Azure.
In the months ahead, product prices may go down due to intense domestic competition. Despite this, most makers are upbeat about the line and ready to raise output to meet increasing demand from the indoor and outdoor lighting market. They expect continued sales growth of 5 to 10 percent this year.
