The latest robotic vacuum cleaners from China are made smarter and more self-sufficient with the integration of IR and ultrasonic technologies. These allow the units to detect and avoid obstacles on the ground. One model in this gallery can sense barriers even in total darkness.

Multiple sensors, meanwhile, prevent robotic vacuum cleaners from falling down the stairs or slipping off edges. One featured unit can create virtual walls, allowing the user to specify certain areas as restricted. Another has the ability to go back on its own to its docking station to recharge when the battery is low.
