Units with 700 to 1,200nm wavelength form the mainstream supply of IR LEDs in China.
China suppliers have 700 to 1,200nm IR LEDs for various applications. Units for medical devices are usually in 808nm, biometric identification and lighting 810nm, electronic toll collection systems 830nm, video cameras 850nm and remote controls 940nm.
Products come in DIP and SMD encapsulated forms with 30 to 140-degree viewing angle. These have 1.2 to 1.9V forward voltage and 20 to 60mA forward current.
Based on power rating, there are 1 to 10mW or low-power, 20 to 50mW or medium-power and 50 to 100mW and above or high-power models. The typical operating life span is more than 80,000 hours.
Makers use locally sourced substrates, epoxy resin packages, wires and adhesives. For LED chips, they continue to depend on foreign companies, including Cree and Epistar.
The cost of these materials and components has not changed much in past months, keeping IR LED prices stable. The same trend is expected through 2017.

Through-hole IR LED with 590nm wavelength
The model KH3124URC through-hole IR LED from Kehong Opto Electronics (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd has 3.6V and 20mA maximum forward voltage and current. The 5mm unit has 590nm wavelength.

3535 IR LED has up to 3W power

850nm SMD IR LED in 3535 package
