China's manufacturers of flat cables focus on customization while emphasizing high reliability and stability in maintaining signal integrity for computers and peripherals, TVs, audio products and industrial applications.
These products, which are thinner and more flexible but with higher EMI shielding by construction than round cables, can be made with a customizable number and size of conductors and in any length. Other product features, such as conductor plating material and thickness, can also be modified.
Commonly available flat cables in China have a 0.5, 0.8, 1, 1.25, 1.27, 1.5, 2 or 2.54mm pitch and -40 to 70 C operating temperature. Wires used by UL style include UL 758, UL 2651, UL 2468, UL 2678, UL 2877, UL 2902, UL 20080, UL 20706, UL 21060 and UL 21311. Products meet industry safety and environmental standards, such as cUL and RoHS.
Chinese suppliers source copper conductors, and PVC, TPE and XLPE insulation materials from domestic and foreign providers as required. So far this year, input costs and product prices have remained stable, and this trend is expected to continue throughout 2021.
China is major production hub for flat cables, with a supplier pool that includes foreign companies. Major manufacturers include He Hui, Cvilux, Xinfuer, Luxshare-ICT, Sumitomo Electric, Mei Tong, Johnson Electric and Samtec.
UL 20706 style
This white flat cable from Dongguan Hundu Electronic Co. Ltd, the HD-PD-43, uses UL 20706 wires and Mylar tape. It measures 1m in length.
An order of at least 100 units is required. Delivery lead time is 16 days.
IDC termination
This HD-PD-41 model from Dongguan Hundu Electronic Co. Ltd is a UL 265-style flat cable with insulation-displacement connectors. It is 0.5m long and comes in gray.
The minimum order is 100 units for delivery within 16 days.
300VAC, 105 C ratings
The WCH-FRC70420 flat cable from Dongguan Wenchang Electronic Co. Ltd uses annealed tinned stranded copper conductors and TPE insulation. Its voltage and temperature ratings are 300VAC and 105 C. This horizontal flame-tested unit meets UL 2951, UL 758, UL 1581 and CSA 22.2 standards.
The minimum order is 610m. Delivery lead time is seven days.
Stranded or solid copper conductors
Dongguan Wenchang Electronic Co. Ltd markets this WCH-FRC70323 flat cable with annealed tinned stranded or solid copper conductors and PVC or XLPE insulation. This UL 2651 unit undergoes a vertical or horizontal flame test according to UL VW-1, cUL FT-1 or cUL FT-2.
The supplier requires an order of 610m. Delivery is within seven days.
0.5, 1mm pitch options
With a 0.5 or 1mm pitch, Xinfuer Electronic Co. Ltd's XFE-1 flat cable has 0.035 or 0.05mm-thick and 0.43, 0.5 or 0.65mm-wide conductors, and four to 100-pin connectors. In terms of length, insulation is 30 to 1,200mm, strip 2 to 10mm and reinforcement tape 4 to 20mm. Total length is 32 to 1,210mm.
The minimum order quantity is 2,000 units. Delivery lead time is seven days.
Four- to 100-pin connectors
This 32 to 1,210mm-long flat cable from Xinfuer Electronic Co. Ltd, the XFE-2, has four- to 100-pin connectors, and conductors with 0.035 or 0.05mm thickness and 0.43, 0.5 or 0.65mm width. Pitch is 0.5 or 1mm. The unit, with a 4 to 20mm reinforcement tape, has 30 to 1,200mm insulation and 2 to 10mm strip lengths.
The 2,000-unit minimum order requirement has a delivery lead time of seven days.
