Unisex clothing is becoming an important niche in the garments industry in light of growing gender-sensitivity among consumers, especially the millennials.

An increasing number of brands are launching garments that cater to both men and women, signaling the emergence of gender-neutral clothing as a critical segment in the apparel industry.
Traditionally seen in high-fashion runways, unisex clothing is becoming a part of everyday wear.
Spain-based Zara, for example, unveiled recently a 15-piece "Ungendered" collection for spring 2016. The line consists of subtly colored denim T-shirts and hoodies. These are priced at $15 to $50.
Famous US celebrity Ellen DeGeneres has collaborated with GapKids to develop a selection of nongirly clothes. The collection does not include dresses, and instead features tailored jackets, polos and pants.
Based in Los Angeles, Mother Denim also released a genderless collection of skinny jeans, tees and coveralls under the Mx brand. The garments utilize stretch fabric to fit easily different body contours.
Canada's Muttonhead Apparel, known for its utilitarian casuals that fit both men's and women's bodies, meanwhile, has gained a cult following.
Even haute fashion houses such as Hood by Air, J.W.Anderson and Gucci have all launched unisex lines.
Companies see growing demand from young people, especially the millennials. But analysts believe the trend signifies an important shift in the apparel market. According to business news website Business Insider, it shows that "retailers are recognizing that women and men need not be confined to traditional gender roles and… that retailers are responding to a society that is accepting of those with gender fluidity."
