A new design for a light bulb from Allocacoc makes lights more versatile than before. The mini LED bulb, LightCube, is shaped like a cube as the name implies. There is a switch at its center and a plug behind that allows it to be attached to a pendant or table lamp, or a wall socket. The switch can be pressed manually but is capable of detecting hand gestures for various commands. Waving a hand above the sensor switch also turns the bulb on or off, and a hold motion dims it. The motion-sensing feature also makes the product suitable for security lighting.
LightCube can also be tossed under the bed as a floor lamp or brought anywhere as a standalone emergency light. It emits up to 600 lumens. Power and compatibility are not problems for the unit has an internal battery and is available in different socket types. The product also has versions with an extended plug cable length. The bulb goes for about $40 via Yanko Design.
In China, makers are also releasing compact and portable motion-sensing lights. A number of units can double as desk, wall or night lamps.
