Global Sources top 20 home products (July 2013): Bedding sets top list

Innovations, enhancements and the "green" movement are sustaining the popularity of the four hottest categories on GlobalSources.com's top 20 home products.

Bedding sets led the top 20 in July 2013, receiving close to 40 percent more inquiries from June. The line fared even better YoY with a 119 percent jump in requests for information as suppliers expanded their cotton selections with environment-friendly fabrics such as modal to keep interest high.

Disposable cups gathered three times more inquiries in just one year. Products are mostly made of plastic and can be printed with various designs, logos and even brands, making them best-sellers among importers of promotional products.

Despite dropping in popularity MoM, ceramic mugs kept its hold on the number 3 position in the top 20. Suppliers are adopting a range of surface finishes, including white glaze and clear polish, to keep the line fresh.

Cookware sets, meanwhile, accounted the fourth-largest share of home products inquiries in July. Sourcing options in this category continue to grow as makers adopt silicone and nylon in upcoming releases. Stainless steel and aluminum represent the mainstream.
