A CAGR of 3.97 percent from 2016 to 2020 for the global stationery supplies market is expected, according to research analysts from Technavio.

An increase in education expenses and a demand for customized and multifunctional stationery have driven manufacturers to focus on innovation that add value and utility to their products. For example, many writing instruments are designed to double as a stylus. Other materials are eye-catching with bright colors, popular character prints and even LED lights.

In terms of categories, paper-based products dominate in 2015 with more than 50 percent of the market share, and is expected to maintain its dominance from 2016 to 2020. Another factor that will contribute to growth is a rising interest in paper crafts, art activities and more customized models.

Geography-wise, North America is the largest school stationery supplies market, accounting for more than 38 percent of the share. On the other hand, as the industry is quite fragmented, competition among large and medium players is predicted to intensify in the coming years.
