US-based nail color and treatments brand Orly has collaborated with lifestyle website MuslimGirl.com to launch a limited-edition nail polish designed for Muslim women. The line, called #HalalPaint, consists of nail polish in six different shades made of 100 percent halal ingredients certified by the Islamic Society of the Washington Area. It was released during the Islam holy month of Ramadan and comes in time when the popularity of halal cosmetics is growing.
Another important attribute of the collection is its permeability to water and air. This suits the ritual washing, called wudhu, which Muslims perform before prayers. The act includes washing of the hands and arms where water must reach every part. Some Muslim women forego wearing nail polish concerned that this may serve as a barrier that prevents water from reaching their fingernails.
Orly claims that the breathable technology #HalalPaint adopts makes it possible for both oxygen and water to pass through the layer of paint on a molecular level. This formula also prevents wear and chipping, and eliminates the need for base or topcoats. Additionally, the nail polish contains argan oil and vitamin C, which are essential for the nourishment and hydration of the nails.
The #HalalPaint collection comes in names that are easily recognizable to Muslims, namely The Perfect Amani-cure, What the Fatima?, Ig-noor the Haters, Wallah Bro Wipe Out, #MuslimGirlFire and Haram-Bae. It is available at www.halalpaint.com for $49.
