Home products lead Wal-Mart's best-selling items online for each state

As expected, food and drinks topped the Wal-Mart's list as most consumers were on a celebratory mood during the holiday season.

Wal-Mart concluded another strong holiday push with a slew of perks and discounts to further boost sales. Now that the Yuletide season is over, analysts at the US-based retail behemoth reviewed online purchases to determine consumer behavior and the best-selling items in each state.

Expectedly, food and beverage topped the list for several states as most consumers were on a celebratory mood during the Christmas season. Interesting buys included pet products, outdoor gear and household items.

Below are the most popular home product categories purchased on Walmart.com in select states and similar items from Global Sources suppliers.

Sweets
Candies and chocolate drew robust online sales because apparently everyone loves sweets during the holidays. Spiced jelly candies topped Delaware while Life Savers were the favorite in Missouri. Peanut M&M's were most popular in Colorado while Arkansas was a chocolate-loving state. Watermelon-flavored gum, vanilla frosting and brownies were the best-sellers in North Dakota, Washington State and Maine, respectively.

Beverage
Beer and soda did not lead this category, of course, as consumers want their booze just a few steps away. Health-conscious buyers seemed active in California and Florida as orders for protein powder and sparkling cider topped in the states, respectively. Louisiana loved root beer extract, Indiana was high on instant coffee, South Dakota had a taste for orange juice while grape-flavored drink mix was most-popular in Ohio.

Snacks
Chips also sold well during the holidays. Flamin' Hot Cheetos was the favorite in Minnesota, New Yorkers had their fill of Cheerios and consumers in Washington D.C. chumped down on Great Value French Fried Onions. Other food categories in that made the list are mayonnaise for North Carolina, barbecue sauce for Oklahoma and canned sweet corn for Vermont.

Appliances
Households in Massachusetts seemed to need more space to store food as refrigerators topped their list while Mississippi decided to go healthy with oil-less fryers. Heading west, humidifiers were the best-sellers in Oregon.

Pet treats
Animal-loving folks in Nevada and New Mexico turned to Walmart.com this season where purchases of dog treats and cat food came in the strongest, respectively.

Personal care items
Prioritizing hygiene, residents in New Hampshire bought cinnamon-flavored toothpaste while those living in Utah purchased personal travel kits the most.

Outdoor products
Many Kansas consumers ordered Ozark Trail Tumblers while buyers from Virginia got coolers, revealing a most likely intention to explore the great outdoors.

Household supplies
Wisconsin residents buying hometown Green Bay Packers bath mat... expected. But Michigan folks purchasing lavender-scented cleaning products and Iowa consumers ordering water-softening crystals... interesting.
