One of the chief complaints about color touchscreen wearables has been that its power requirements outstrip the battery’s ability to maintain a charge over a long period. Wearables like the Pebble watch last for weeks at a time, however it does not feature a touchscreen or an LCD screen. Smartwatches with such features have been disappointing in terms of battery life.

The Apple Watch is not even out yet, but there is some speculation that the device’s battery life may not quite last a full day. In a report in AppleInsider, while the display is expected to draw less power than other smartwatches, the concern is that the sheer number of capabilities packed into the watch may drain the power too quickly.

While the device has not been released yet, and the method of charging has not been disclosed, the expectation is that if it can be charged using either a wire or a wireless charger, it may be necessary to carry a power bank to make it through the day. Should the watch use a wireless charging method, it may open up new opportunities for the right power bank manufacturer.
