There are some products with very weird designs in the world today, but sometimes that is what it takes to get noticed. For instance, Sound Heroes is a premium Bluetooth speaker in the shape of a 3ft humanoid robot, and it has already raised more than 600 percent of its goal on Indiegogo.
The Sound Heroes speaker is not just a Bluetooth speaker, although that is its primary function. It also serves as a subwoofer, Wi-Fi range extender and wireless charging dock for smartphones. The base glows with RGB LED lights and is built with a "smoke machine" that releases vapor for added effect. An early bird special on the premium version of the speaker is $240.
Sound Heroes is an unproven product, like so many products being crowdfunded today. People still seem excited by it, though. With a unique design that appeals to a niche group in the market, the robot speaker does something that more developers should consider to capture a fan base.
The Sound Heroes speaker seems to be doing something similar to the My Audio Pet products. KJ Robinson at the Global Sources Summit about how his animal-themed mini Bluetooth speakers became one of Oprah’s favorite things.
He attributed it in part to trying something different. Sound Heroes is certainly different, and it costs a lot more than My Audio Pet speakers. However, that just helps it stand out, even if Oprah doesn’t come knocking.
