Hybrid case gives iPhone 7 an E Ink display

E Ink displays do not get talked about much these days now that the hype around e-readers such as the Amazon Kindle has largely subsided. Many people switched to more capable tablets. While tablets can do more, their batteries do not last nearly as long because of the power required to run LCD and OLED screens. That is why Oaxis advertises its InkCase as an iPhone case that can make the smartphone last longer.

Oaxis released recently the InkCase i7 for the iPhone 7. The case has an E Ink display on the back that allows people to read on a low-powered display. This is how Oaxis is able to claim that it will make users' iPhones last longer even though it connects to the handset through Bluetooth, which draws more power from the phone. If users do not turn on the LCD as often, however, the InkCase will perform its function. Unfortunately, Oaxis does not yet have an InkCase for the iPhone 7 Plus.

Products with E Ink displays tend to be niched, but it often pays to cater to targeted audiences now. This is also a smart way for some people to give themselves a power boost without carrying around a power bank. As smartphones get more features-heavy and battery technology stays the same, more companies are looking for ways to improve battery life without stuffing in larger batteries. Low-powered second displays are unlikely to be the most popular method of doing this, but one way of accomplishing it while reaching out to people who do a lot of reading on their smartphones.
