Intel's develops an IoT platform that will allow Levi's to monitor all stock movements in its store, increasing efficiency while cutting costs.

US-based clothing manufacturer Levi's Strauss & Co. and technology firm Intel Corp. are collaborating in a new project aimed at creating a tracking technology that will allow the former to save large amounts of money. The technology, which monitors all stock movements in the store, will initially be adopted in a Levi's retail outlet in San Francisco, California.
The project requires Levi's to place RFID tags on all its items in the store. The tags will then connect to Intel's Internet of Things or IoT platform, which aggregates and sends data collected to the cloud. Once information is sent, Intel's analytics platform will track every movement in the store, from excessive inventory to sold-out items that need restocking. Each merchandize is monitored for volume and location in real-time, ensuring that the items are in place when customers need them and removed if there is low demand.
Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said that "with every 3 percent of inventory accuracy gained, you get about 1 percent increase in sales uplift. All of that goes directly to the bottom line." He, however, did not disclose the actual sales benefit Levi's saw with the implementation of this technology.
This is not the first time that the clothing company has joined forces with a technology firm. Last May, Levi's partnered with Google in developing a smart fabric that can connect to different smart devices.
