Intel plans to add a superscalable new Xeon processor family of supercomputer-caliber central processing units sometime around the middle of this year.
The effort is called "re-architecting the data center with the Intel's Xeon-processor scalable family," said Lisa Spelman, vice president and general manager of the Intel Xeon products and data center marketing group.
The bottomline is that the whole group of Xeon models will be joined into a single family, which allows easy scalability for top to bottom, instead of just marketing a mishmash of Xeon E5 and E7 SKUs.
