According to Digitimes, Apple has seen significant demand for its iPhone 6 Plus phablet, which has pushed the company to change its product mix to produce more of the 5.5in iPhone Plus. The report indicates that the iPhone 6’s shipments are projected to be between 3 and 4 million units below expectations. This would mean that not only is the iPhone 6 Plus more popular than expected, but overall iPhone purchases are not quite as robust as initially expected.

However, other analysts indicate a shortage of the iPhone 6 Plus. In an article on 9to5Mac, Benjamin Mayo looks at the same data as well as overall iPhone usage patterns and comes to a different conclusion. While both phones are consistently out of stock, it appears as though iPhone 6 usage is about 4 times as high as iPhone 6 Plus usage. Since the phones are out of stock, this may indicate that the overall sales patterns are similar to the usage patterns.
